Volleyball Breaks Two Streaks with One Win at UTEP

El Paso, Texas - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad ended two losing streaks with one win on Thursday night. With a 3-1 (31-29, 30-20, 19-30, 30-19) victory over UTEP in El Paso, TU snapped an 11-match Western Athletic Conference losing streak. The win was also the first time in school history, Tulsa had defeated the Miners in El Paso.
Sophomore Joyce Silva led the Hurricane attack with 21 kills. The Belo Horizonte, Brazil native currently leads the WAC with 5.08 kills per game. Redshirt freshman Kassiana Urnau recorded her fifth double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. She also added three of TU's nine service aces.
Senior Vanessa Thon added a match-high 43 assists, while junior Evyn Bandy also contributed 15 digs for the Hurricane.
Tulsa (12-3, 1-2 WAC) will return to the court on Saturday against Boise State at 8 p.m. (CST). The Broncos enter the contest 13-3 after dropping their first confernce match of the season on Thursday, to Rice.
