Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's rowing team put together an outstanding day of competition, winning four races to claim the Oklahoma Cup trophy at the Oklahoma Cup Regatta at Zink Lake on the Arkansas River in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"It was a very exciting day for The University of Tulsa," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We started this regatta as a way to build rowing in the state of Oklahoma, and it was encouraging today to see these teams challenge each other."

TU's Women's 8+ began the day strong for the Golden Hurricane, recording a top mark in a time of 6:29.9, nearly a minute ahead of Oklahoma City University. Tulsa started the race clean and OCU kept with them for the first 500 meters, but TU settled into its race and pulled ahead.

In the Novice 4, Tulsa dominated the race as the A and B boats claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 slots in times of 7:08.8 and 8:00.9, respectively.

The Golden Hurricane's Varsity 4 also posted a top mark in a time of 7:31.1, more than 30 seconds ahead of Oklahoma, and the Lightweight 4 finished in first place in a time of 7:50.2.

"The team put together some great races today," said Harris. "All of the teams lengthened their stroke, which is what we set out to do. It was a great opportunity to work on different aspects of our race plan."

"Overall, it was a great day," Harris added. "It was nice to honor our seniors and to dedicate our new shell, Katie, but it was great to race so well in our hometown in front of our supporters."
