Austin, Texas - The Tulsa women's golf team carded an opening round 311 at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on Friday. Tulsa sits in fifth-place in the 17-team field at the par-72 University of Texas Golf Club, while Hurricane senior Lee-Anne Pace shot one of only two sub-par rounds in the 99-player field with a one-under par 71 score.
Nebraska is the first round leader with a 14-over par score of 302, followed by Duke (307), Arkansas (309), Oklahoma State (31o) and Tulsa (311) rounding out the top-five teams. Texas A&M, host Texas, Arizona State, Kansas State and Baylor round out the top-10 teams. TCU, Missouri, New Mexico State, SMU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Kansas conclude the field.
Pace trails Nebraska's Elli Brown in the individual race by one stroke, as Brown finished with a two-under par 70.
The Hurricane began the day teeing off on hole 10, and relied on the play of Pace and freshman Michaela Cavener. Pace birdied holes 1 and 9, while suffering her only bogey of the day on the par-4 15th hole. Cavener is in fifth-place after shooting an opening round two-over par 74.
A pair of freshman, Leisl Hasbrouck and Polly Travica, shot first round score of 83 for Tulsa, while sophomore Anna-Christina Kindgren finished the first day with a score of 85.
The tournament will continue with second round action on Saturday, followed by Sunday's final 18 holes.
