Boca Raton, Fla. - The University of Tulsa could not over come the hot bats of Florida Atlantic in the third-place game of the FAU Parents' Weekend Tournament on Sunday. FAU took the rubber match in the season series with TU, 7-0. The two teams had split the previous two meetings as this was the third meeting in a week between the two clubs.
The Owls scored first with three runs in the top of the second inning. FAU used three this and a TU error to break open the contest off TU starter senior Ami Day. FAU added a single run in the fourth inning before exploding for three more runs off a trio of hits and a pair of TU errors in the top of the sixth inning.
Tulsa posted four hits in the contest, as freshman Lindsey Tower, senior Stephanie Sliepen, sophomore Angela Osbon and junior Julie Shafer extended personal hitting streaks for the Hurricane.
Day picked up her fourth loss of the season, while allowing five hits and a walk in three innings of work. Junior Maren Genow pitched the final four innings of the contest for TU, striking out four FAU batters and allowing only one walk.
Tulsa (18-18) returns to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex for a mid-week contest against in-state rival Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. The next day, Thursday, March 24, the Hurricane will travel to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State at 6:30 p.m.
