Tulsa Women Golfers in Sixth Place at PING/ASU Invitational

Tempe, Arizona - The Tulsa women's golf team carded an opening round 303 at the PING/ASU Invitational on Friday in a field comprised of some of the nation's top collegiate golf teams.
Tulsa sits in three-way tie for sixth-place in a 17-team field at the par-72 Karsten Golf Course.
UCLA leads the field with a three-over par score of 291, followed by host Arizona State and Oregon (295) in a second-place tie. California (297) and Pepperdine (302) round out the top-five teams. The next five teams include Tulsa, New Mexico and USC, all tied for sixth place with 303 scores, Stanford, Texas and Washington are tied for ninth place with scores of 305.
For the Hurricane, freshman Michael Cavener (Ponca City, Okla.) is tied for seventh place after firing a first round one-over par 73 score. Cavener is just three strokes behind the individual leaders, Susie Mathews of UCLA and Arizona State's Louise Stahle.
On the day, Cavener birdied holes #11, #18, #1 and #2, as the Hurricane began the day teeing off on the 10th hole.
Senior Lee-Anne Pace carded a four-over par 76 and is in 33rd place after the first round. Junior Cas Bridge and freshman Leisl Hasbrouck are tied for 40th place with identical rounds of 77 today, while freshman Polly Travica finished with a round of 80 and is tied for 71st place.
The PING/ASU Invitational continues on Saturday and Sunday. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. (PT) on Saturday and at 7:30 a.m. (PT) on Sunday.
