Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's rowing team will host the second annual Oklahoma Cup Regatta at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday at Zink Lake on the Arkansas River. The event marks the second and final home regatta for the Golden Hurricane this season.

The crews participating in this year's race include varsity teams from Oklahoma City University and The University of Tulsa, and club teams from The University of Oklahoma and the University of Arkansas.

"The Oklahoma Cup was originally the idea of Sam Stone, Chairman of the Board of the Tulsa Rowing Club. This had been a dream of his to bring all of the Oklahoma colleges together for a championship," Head Coach Kevin Harris said.

Five races are scheduled, including a women's 8+ race, a women's Varsity 4+ race, a men's and women's Novice 4+ race and a women's lightweight 4+ race.

The overall women's collegiate point winner will receive the Oklahoma Cup, a non-traveling trophy donated by Sam and Susan Stone.

"In 2004, Sam and his wife, Susan, donated the Oklahoma Cup to TU Rowing in order to encourage the growth of collegiate rowing in our state and region. It was wonderful gift and we have already attracted an additional regional team (Arkansas). It means that our goal of making rowing a more popular sport in this part of the country is beginning to bear fruit. Hopefully we'll all grow better together because of the competition," Harris said

"TU is looking forward to competing in this race. We do not get to race at home often, so it is always nice to have our fans come out and watch. Plus, we have some things that we need to work on from our results last week and we will see if we can do them in this race. It is also always fun to race for in-state bragging rights," Harris added.
