Golden Hurricane Wins Sixth Match of the Season

Denton, Texas - The University of Tulsa utilized a team-best 15 kills from sophomore Kassiana Urnau to pick up its sixth win of the season on Wednesday night. The Golden Hurricane defeated North Texas, 3-0 (30-25, 30-26, 30-25) at The Snake Pit on the UNT campus before a crowd of 287 in the Mean Green's home opener.

The win improved TU's season record to 6-1, while also stretching the Hurricane's advantage in the series with UNT to 11-6. The MeanGreen falls to 0-7.

Urnau was the Hurricane's only player to record double-digits in kills, while juniors Germana Hilario added nine kills and Amy Meyer contributed eight kills. Sophomore setter Julia Silva added 36 assists and 10 digs to lead TU in those categories.

UNT won the battle in kills, by out hitting the Hurricane 54-46, however the MeanGreen also committed 26 hitting errors. Tulsa registered six team blocks on the evening as well. TU owned a 20-13 kill advantage, before UNT recorded 21 and 20 kills, respectively in games two and three.

The Golden Hurricane did record seven service aces during the contest, led by a pair apiece from seniors Dana Weddle and Evyn Wills. It was the 13th consecutive match in which TU has recorded at least one ace. The Hurricane posted an ace in 26 of 27 matches last season and all seven this season.

Tulsa returns to the friendly confines of the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Friday for the start of the Crowne Plaza Invitational. TU will play Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. on Friday, before concluding the tournament on Saturday with a noon match against Grambling State and a 7 p.m. match against Stephen F. Austin.
