Tulsa Volleyball Players and Coach Receive Conference USA Accolades

Irving, Texas - Tulsa's regular season Conference USA Champion women's volleyball team raked in the honors, as the league office announced the postseason award winners today.

Tulsa junior setter Julia Silva was selected as the C-USA Setter of the Year and was joined on the first-team all-conference squad by junior outside hitter Kassiana Urnau. Senior outside hitter Hermana Hilario and junior middle blocker Fabiola Nepomuceno were selected to the C-USA second team.

First-year Head Coach Ed Allen was named the C-USA Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Hurricane to their first regular season volleyball crown in school history. Allen led Tulsa to a 26-6 overall record and a 13-3 C-USA mark. Tulsa's 26 victories ranks as the fourth most wins in the nation.

Silva was named C-USA Setter of the Week four times this year while leading the Hurricane with 1,338 assists. She added 366 digs to rank second on the team and her 211 kills was good for fifth-place for the Hurricane.

Silva had three triple-doubles this year and tallied 18 double-doubles. She now ranks second on the school's all-time assists chart with 2,635 career assists.

Urnau, a C-USA second-team selection last year, led the Hurricane with 456 kills for a 4.04 average per game and was second in digs with 404 for a 3.5 per game average. She set the school record for kills in a single season and moved into second-place on the school's career kills list with 1,056 kills.

Tulsa's second-team selections, Hilario and Nepomuceno, turned in stellar years as well. Hilario ranked second behind Urnau with 388 kills and posted a .235 hitting percentage, while adding 160 digs and 76 blocks. Nepomuceno, who made the transition from outside hitter to middle blocker this year, totaled a team-high 94 blocks and was third on the team in kills with 282 while posting a .273 hitting percentage.

Tulsa begins play in the 12th Annual C-USA Volleyball Championship this week in Houston, Texas. The Hurricane will play the winner of the SMU and Southern Miss match at 12 noon on Friday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
