Houston, Texas -- Houston had a dominating performance in stopping Tulsa's six-game winning streak with a 27-10 victory in front of 22,452 fans at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. Tulsa dropped to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in Conference USA play.

The Cougars took the edge in the race for the C-USA West Division title with the victory, improving its league mark to 4-1 and 7-3 overall.

The home team had an offensive performance that totaled 471 yards, while the Hurricane offense gained just 249 yards. Kevin Kolb completed 16-of-21 passes for 244 yards and one touchdown, while the Houston ground game put up 227 yards.

Houston scored first in the game taking its opening drive 49 yards in eight plays as Anthony Aldridge took the option pitch three yards for the touchdown at the 8:22 mark.

After a Houston fumble was recovered by Tulsa's Walter Boyd at the Cougars nine-yard line, Courtney Tennial takes the first carry nine yards to tie the score at 7-7 with 3:13 left in the first quarter.

Tulsa took a three-point lead early in the second quarter, but Cougars evened the score at 10-10, as Aldridge's 59-yard run set-up the score. The drive covered 73 yards in six plays.

Just before halftime, a third-and-29 pass completion of 53 yards from Kolb to Donnie Avery took the Cougars to the Tulsa 13-yard line. On the next play, the Cougars went ahead 17-10 as Kolb threw 14 yards to Vincent Marshall for the score with 0:05 left in the first half, completing a seven-play, 87-yard drive.

Houston dominated the first-half play, out-gaining the Hurricane 253 to 92 yards, an 8.7 average gain per play for the Cougars to 3.7 yards for Tulsa. The Hurricane could only manage 54 rushing yards and 38 passing yards in the first half.

The Cougars took the second half kickoff 83 yards in 10 plays to take a 24-10 lead at the 9:39 mark of the third quarter, scoring the touchdown on fourth-and-one from the one-yard line with a Jackie Battle TD.

Tulsa had a chance to cut into the Cougars lead at the 2:43 mark of the third period, but a fumble gave Houston the ball at the Cougars eight-yard line.

Tulsa returns home next weekend to face the Rice Owls on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2:05 pm.
