Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa appointed Ed Allen as the school's head volleyball coach, it was announced today by Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham.

Allen becomes the fifth head volleyball coach in school history.

Allen, 42 (3-26-64), brings 14 years experience as a collegiate head coach to Tulsa. He has a 365-146 career coaching mark, while coaching 46 all-conference performers and five Conference Player of the Year selections.

"We're excited to have Ed join our coaching staff at The University of Tulsa," said Cunningham. "He has the values and characteristics that we were looking for in a head coach. It's extremely evident by his record that he possesses tremendous coaching ability, but even more important is Ed's emphasis and commitment on seeing his student-athletes graduate and succeed following their playing careers."

"I'm thrilled about the opportunity to coach here at Tulsa. The volleyball program has enjoyed some recent success, and our goal will be to build upon that success and compete for a conference title year-in and year-out. We want to experience a consistent winning program that has become commonplace with a number of other TU athletic teams," said Allen.

Prior to coming to Tulsa, Allen spent three seasons (2003-05) as the head volleyball coach at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. During his tenure, Allen's teams compiled an overall 98-18 record, a 39-3 conference mark, won three straight South Atlantic Conference Championships, two conference tournament titles and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament twice.

At Presbyterian, Allen coached three Conference Players of the Year, two Conference Tournament MVPs, one Freshman of the Year, 12 all-conference players, five all-region selections and two All-Americans.

In 2005, Allen led his team to a 36-5 record, a conference title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He coached his 2004 squad to a 28-8 record and the regular season crown, while in his first season Allen guided Presbyterian to a 34-5 overall mark, the 2003 SAC regular season title with a 13-1 mark.

Before that, Allen was the head coach at NCAA Division III Anderson (Ind.) University for 11 seasons (1992-2003). He guided his team to 11 straight winning seasons, 17 tournament titles and a 267-128 overall record. He also served as an assistant athletics director for seven years at Anderson University.

Allen earned Conference Coach of the Year honors four times, including 1994 and 2000 at Anderson University and was named the South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005.

Prior to moving to the collegiate level, Allen was an assistant volleyball coach at Pendleton Heights (Ind.) High School for three years (1989-91) and also had a two-year mark of 33-6 as the junior varsity coach.

Allen earned his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1988 and his master's degree in athletic administration in 1996, both from Ball State (Ind.) University.

Allen and his wife, Karis, have three sons: Drake, Payton and Nolan.
