Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Rowing Coach Kevin Harris announced today the hiring of Julie Domina as an assistant coach for the Golden Hurricane.

Domina will serve as the head coach for Tulsa's novice program and will be the assistant varsity coach. Off the water, she will oversee recruiting, team academics and community service, as well as assisting with other aspects of the program.

Domina, 23, comes to Tulsa from Ithaca College in New York where she was the head novice coach during the 2005-06 campaign. Under her guidance, Ithaca's First Novice boat compiled an 8-2 regular season record and was 12-3 in post-season racing. The Second Novice boat turned in a 5-1 mark during the regular season and was 5-3 in post-season competition.

"Julie comes to TU from one of the best Division III programs in the nation," Harris said. "Ithaca College has won multiple national championships and many of the people who have been assistant coaches there have moved on to successful coaching careers. She stood out in a very good pool of coaching candidates. She is a great addition to the TU community."

Prior to Ithaca College, Domina was a three-year letterwinner in rowing at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill from 2001-05. During her time at UNC, she received UNC Rowing Rookie of the Year honors in 2002 and served as the varsity team captain during the final two seasons of her collegiate career. Her First Varsity Eight boat earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week once in 2004 and her team was honored with the ACC's Sportsmanship Award in 2004. Domina was named team MVP and to the all-ACC rowing team during her senior season of 2005.

On the academic side, she was named to UNC's Dean's List for five semesters and was a four-time member of the ACC Honor Roll. As a senior, Domina earned the UNC Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award and was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar Athlete.

A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Domina received her bachelor's degree in sports administration in May 2005. She will earn her master's degree in sports psychology from Ithaca College in August 2006.

Domina is a member of CRCA and US Rowing, and holds a US Rowing Level I Coaching Certificate.
