Volleyball Earns Double Sweeps at Hampton Inn Spiketacular

Troy, Ala. - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad won its third consecutive match on Saturday with a pair of sweeps over NCAA Tournament participant Florida A&M and host Troy at the Hampton Inn Spiketacular in Troy, Ala. TU extended its record to 3-0 with a 3-0 (30-17, 30-23, 30-28) win over FAMU along with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-14, 30-23) win over the host Trojans.
Against the Rattlers, senior Germana Hilario led the Hurricane attack with 11 kills, while junior Julia Silva posted a team-high 38 assists. Fellow junior Kassiana Urnau led TU with 16 digs to go along with 10 kills for Tulsa's first double-double of the season.
In the tournament finale, sophomore Malorey Grove recorded seven service aces helping lead the Hurricane to its third consecutive 3-0 victory. Hilario posted a 16 kill performance and a .600 hitting percentage for team highs in both categories. Grove also posted a team-best 10 digs, while Silva averaged over 10 assists a game for the third consecutive match with 35 for the whole contest.
Tulsa will open its home schedule on Wednesday, August 30, against cross-town rival Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tickets for the contest are $6 for adults and $4 for youth.
