Tulsa Women Dominate Day One at Kansas State Invite

Manhattan, Kan. - The University of Tulsa's women's tennis team put together a dominating performance on the opening day of the Kansas State Invitational, winning 13 of its 16 matches in the hidden-duel format event in Manhattan, Kan.
The Golden Hurricane won all eight doubles matches on the day. TU started with a sweep of Missouri's doubles squads, led by Santie Delport's and Marta Marcinkowska's convincing, 8-3, win over Raquel Wagner and Katelyn McKenzie. Kindsay Grimes and Carla Zabaleta defeated Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel of Missouri, 8-4, with Thalia Diaz-Barriga and Nora Kuruc posting a win over Kaitlin Dunham and Chrissy Svetlic by the same score.
Grimes and Zabaleta led the charge later in the day against Viviana Yrureta and Katerina Kudlackova of Kansas State with an 8-4 win to spur a sweep of KSU's doubles. Delport and Marcinkowska defeated Olga Klimova and Tamar Kvaratskhelia by the score of 8-6, with Julie Westfall and Agostina Santoro matching that score in a defeat of Tereza Prochazkova and Natasha Vieira.
TU also picked up wins against Arkansas in doubles action with Westfall and Santoro defeating Melissa Hoffmeister and Carly Dixon, 8-6, in the first session and Diaz-Barriga and Kuruc taking Hoffmeister and Dixon, 8-4, in the second session.
The Golden Hurricane won five-of-eight singles matches on the day, with Zabaleta, Grimes, Delport, Diaz-Barriga and Santoro picking up straight-set victories.
Zabaleta took Mizzouri's Josbena, 6-2, 6-1, while Grimes handed the Tiger's Pratzel a 6-4, 6-1 loss. Delport defeated Svetlic, 6-1, 6-3, and Diaz-Barriga needed a tie-breaker win in her first set against Charlotte Bellis to continue the straight-set win streak, going on to win the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Santoro then took out McKenzie, 7-5, 6-1, to finish out TU's streak.
Competition at the Kansas State Invitational will continue through Sunday at the Washburn Tennis Facility in Manhattan, Kansas.
