Tulsa Women Open Season with Double-Header Sweep of ORU

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team opened the 2007 season with a pair of victories over Oral Roberts by scores of 6-1 and 4-0 on Tuesday evening.
TU swept all six doubles matches played to score the doubles point in each contest. Kindsay Grimes and Carla Zabaleta played at the number one position in both matches, first defeating Emily Arkell and Paige McKinney 8-3 in match one before defeating Arkell and Tayler Pippin 8-2 in match two.
Santie Delport and Marta Marcinkowska picked up an 8-3 win in over Pippin and Hayden Rush in the number two position. Thalia Diaz-Barriga and Jie Zeng played the number two in the second match and defeated Rafaela Souza and McKinney 8-2.
Barriga and Zeng defeated Souza and Corrine Lanston at the three position in the first match, while Julie Westfall and Agostina Santoro bested Langston and Rush in the nightcap.
In singles play, Grimes picked up a pair of wins, first against McKinney, 6-3, 6-1, at the two position and then a 6-2, 6-0 win over Arkell at the one position.
Eleonora Kuruc lost at the three position, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9, to Pippin before defeating Langston 6-0, 6-1 in the second match.
Jenna Webster picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win in the five spot over Souza, with Julie Westfall defeating Langston 6-1, 6-1. Zeng took out rush 6-3, 6-3 in the four position to complete match one.
Santoro was the only other Golden Hurricane to complete a match in the second match, taking down Souza 6-1, 6-0.
Tulsa's women's tennis team will next be in action on January 20-21 with matches in Lawrence, Kan., first against Drake on Jan. 20, then against Kansas on Jan. 21.
