Tulsa Women Upend No. 47 Arkansas on the Road

Carla Zabaleta helped guide TU to a upset victory over #47 Arkansas on Sunday.

Fayetteville, Ark. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team (5-0) stayed perfect on the season with a 4-3 win over No. 47 Arkansas in a marathon match that lasted 4 hours and 20 minutes on Sunday afternoon.

Tulsa fell behind early after Arkansas won the doubles point, with TU's Thalia Diaz-Barriga and Jie Zeng teaming for the lone win in doubles, 8-5, at the three position.

The Lady Razorbacks moved to a 2-0 lead when No. 65 Ela Kaluder handed Kindsay Grimes a 6-2, 6-3 loss at the one position.

Santie Delport closed the gap to 2-1 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Nanar Airapetian at the number three position.

Arkansas Moved to a 3-1 lead after Audrey Bordeleau defeated Diaz-Barriga in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8).

Tulsa then turned the match around winning the final three matches to storm to the 4-3 victory.

The TU turnaround started at the number six position when Agostina Santoro ran to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Melissa Hoffmeister to cut the score to 3-2.

Carla Zabaleta tied the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Maryori Franco at the number two position, before Eleonora Kuruc clinched the win for Tulsa with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Rachel Wilhelm at the five position.

Tulsa will be back in action on February 2 when they host Arkansas-Little Rock at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
