Tulsa defeats SMU, 3-1, in C-USA Volleyball Action

Tulsa, Okla.- - The University of Tulsa volleyball extended its home winning streak to 19 matches during Conference USA play, with a 3-1 (30-20, 30-28, 23-30, 30-27) victory over SMU on Friday night. A crowd of 152 witnessed the Golden Hurricane win its fourth consecutive match over the Mustangs, including 13 of 14 games. Only two teams in C-USA history have won more consecutive league home matches than TU, Louisville with 26 and USF with 21.
Senior Fabiola Nepomuceno led all hitters with 21 kills for TU, as freshmen Emma Ridley and Hannah Stout also contributed 11 kills apiece. Senior Julia Silva added her third triple-double on the year with 12 kills, 44 assists and 16 digs on the evening. Silva is the only C-USA player this season to post a triple-double, while she also leads the league with 21 double-doubles. She is also the only C-USA player to record over 15 double-doubles, heading into this weekend's action.
Defensively, junior Malorey Grove posted 24 digs, while freshman Nicole Boyle contributed 15 more for the Hurricane. Tulsa recorded 16 team blocks, led by junior Renee Brooks with a career-high nine. TU held yet another opponent under a .150 hitting percentage, as the Mustangs posted a .145 percentage on the evening.
The two squads will take Saturday off, before facing each other once again on Sunday. The 1 p.m. match will be in Dallas at the Moody Coliseum.
