Golden Hurricane Volleyball Falls in Season Finale, 3-2

Houston, Texas - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad could not make it a Lone Star Sweep on the final weekend of the regular season, falling on Sunday to Houston, 3-2 (30-24, 23-30, 26-30, 30-25, 15-9). Tulsa falls to 24-8 on the season, 11-5 in Conference USA play. The Cougars close out the regular-season 13-14, including an 8-8 mark in league matches.
With Memphis losing on Friday night, TU and the Tigers finished tied for fourth in the league standings. However, the Golden Hurricane owned the tie-breaker over MU thanks to a 3-1 win at the Reynolds Center. TU will be the fourth seed in next week's C-USA Championship, while Memphis will be the fifth seed.
Senior Julia Silva posted her ninth triple-double of the season with 17 kills, 49 assists and 13 digs. Silva has seven triple-doubles in 16 C-USA matches this season, in addition to 14 double-doubles during league play. The second best total in the league for double-doubles overall on the season is 17. Silva also became the all-time assists leader in TU history as well, by becoming the first player to break the 4,000-assist barrier.
Fellow senior Fabiola Nepomuceno led the Hurricane with 22 kills on the afternoon, her 11th 20-kill performance of the season. Freshmen Hannah Stout and Emma Ridley also posted double-figures in kills with 11, apiece.
Tulsa will now head to the C-USA Championship in Huntington, W. Va. Marshall is the host school for the tournament, with the matches being played at the Cam Henderson Center on the MU campus. Tulsa will play in the 6 p.m. match on Friday against the winner of Memphis and UCF. This will be the third consecutive season Tulsa has gotten a first-round bye and qualified for the quarterfinals of the championship.
