Volleyball Team Opens Season at Missouri State

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball program will kickoff the 2007 campaign with a trip to Springfield, Mo. TU will face Delaware State, Missouri State, Sacramento State and UMKC in the round-robin T.J. Sales/Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational. Play begins on Friday, Aug. 24 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 25.
The Hurricane's opening opponent is Sacramento State on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Hornets finished last season with a 30-6 record and won their fifth consecutive Big Sky title. Tulsa will play host Missouri State, another NCAA tournament squad in 2006, at 7:30 p.m., on Friday night. MSU has won all 15 meetings of the two squads, dating back to 1977. The last meeting between the two schools came in 1999.
Tulsa opens Saturday's play with a 10 a.m., match against UMKC. The Hurricane and Kangaroos have met 17 times on the volleyball court, with TU owning a 10-7 advantage. A match with Delaware State at 5 p.m., on Saturday will close Tulsa's weekend. Tulsa defeated the Hornets during the 1998 season in the only other meeting between the squads.
