Tulsa Wins CSU Invitational with Two Sweeps

Charleston, S.C. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches and 18 games with a pair of sweeps on Saturday at the CSU Invitational in Charleston, S.C. Tulsa defeated North Carolina Central, 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-23) in its first match of the day then took down host Charleston Southern in the day's finale, 3-0 (30-14, 30-23, 30-19).
Senior Julia Silva posted her first triple-double of the season with a team-high 14 kills, 31 assists and 16 digs against NCCU. Junior Malorey Grove also contributed 19 digs for the Golden Hurricane. Senior Fabiola Nepomuceno posted double-digits in kills for the fourth time on the season with 12 kills.
In the tournament finale, TU held another opponent to a sub-.200 hitting percentage as the Buccaneers hit a .176 hitting percentage, while the Hurricane posted a season-best .414 percentage. The match also marked the fourth time of the season that TU posted over 50 kills as a squad, finishing with 51. The 68.0 points the Hurricane scored offensively were also a season-best.
Nepomuceno recorded a season-best 16 kills against CSU, as well as a .483 hitting percentage. Five Hurricane hitters posted over a .400 hitting percentage in the contest; included in that list were freshmen Nicole Boyle, Emma Ridley and Shaylin Werner in addition to Nepomuceno and Silva.
On the weekend, TU finished 4-0 with four sweeps. Silva was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Grove was named Tournament Libero, as well. Also joining Silva and Grove on the all-tournament team was Nepomuceno.
Tulsa returns to action on Friday with a single match against Louisiana-Monroe at the Austin Bank Ladyjack Invitational in Nacogdoches, Texas. TU will also face Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin on Satuday.
