Volleyball Hosts Cross-town Rival Oral Roberts

The Golden Hurricane plays host to cross-town rival Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Donald W. Reynolds.

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team plays host to its cross-town rival Oral Roberts Tuesday evening at the Donald W. Reynolds Center, as the Golden Hurricane seek to avenge a 3-2 loss in an exciting match at ORU on Sept. 4.

The match is set to be broadcast on the Golden Hurricane Radio Network on 88.7 FM HD3. Tulsa enters the match 15-4 overall and 3-2 in C-USA play, after going 1-1 over the weekend with a 3-0 loss to Houston and a 3-2 win in a thriller against Rice. In the all-time series, ORU leads 57-12, including that 3-2 win earlier this season, and the series is tied 3-3 since 2005.

The Hurricane averages a .234 attack percentage and 11.70 assists and 0.93 aces per set. The Hurricane defense holds opposing teams to a .177 attack percentage, and averages 14.05 digs and 2.05 blocks per set.

Sophomore middle hitter Hannah Stout leads the Golden Hurricane with a .303 attack percentage, while junior outside hitter Jennifer Eichler leads the team in kills with 233 and senior Beth Hodge leads the way with 3.29 kills per set. Freshman setter Rachel Vukson leads the squad with 521 assists and averages 10.02 assists per set. Vukson also has 14 service aces to pace the squad.

Defensively, senior libero Malorey Grove - the Conference USA co-Defensive Player of the Week - has 242 (3.27 per set), while senior defensive player Kelsey Wood has 208 digs (2.81 per set). The Hurricane has recorded 151.5 total blocks (2.05 per set) and is led by junior middle hitter Julia Kenealy with 81 total blocks, including nine solo rejections.

Oral Roberts travels across town with an 11-5 record, and a 5-1 mark in Summit League play. The Golden Eagles hit .218 as a team, and averages 12.09 assists and 1.32 service aces per set. Defensively, ORU holds the opposition to a .155 attack percentage and averages 14.91 digs and 2.32 blocks per set.

The first 250 students to enter the doors will receive free Tulsa volleyball t-shirt, and free tacos from Taco Bell will be given away. Also, representatives of the American Diabetes Association will be on hand for TU fans to sign up for the ADA Walk for the Cure.
