Tulsa Downs Oklahoma Baptist 83-74 in Exhibition Game

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Sophomore guard Glenn Andrews poured in a game-high 24 points as Tulsa defeated Oklahoma Baptist 83-74 on Thursday night in the first exhibition game of the season for the Golden Hurricane.
Andrews connected on 6-of-8 three pointers to lead the Hurricane onto victory in front of 4,431 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Andrews led five players in double-digit as fellow sophomore Justin Hurtt added 15 points, Ben Uzoh 14, Bishop Wheatley 11 and Jerome Jordan 10 points. Uzoh had a team-high six assists, while Wheatley and Jordan shared the rebounding lead with six caroms apiece.
With the score tied 34-34 at halftime, Hurtt's three-pointer just 0:13 into the second half put the Hurricane ahead for good at 37-34. OBU cut the lead to one-point on a Charles Carter dunk at the 18:28 mark of the second half, but Hurtt's two-pointer and Andrews three-pointer put Tulsa back ahead by six points, 44-38.
The Hurricane took its first double-digit lead at the 9:19 mark on a free throw by Andrews. The Tulsa lead hovered from nine to 14 points the rest of the way. Tulsa's largest lead of 14 points happened three times, the first coming on a layup by Wheatley, making the score 72-58 with 4:23 left in the contest.
Tulsa began the game a little sluggish, scoring just five points in the first six minutes, but Andrews knocked down three of his treys in a four-minute span of the first half. His first three-pointer put Tulsa ahead 5-4 at the 15:38 mark, a lead Tulsa would not get again until 1:30 left in the first-half as Andrews scored on a layup to give Tulsa a 32-30 lead.
OBU went ahead on four free throws, 34-32, with 0:45 remaining before intermission. Tulsa's Steven Idlet knotted the score at the 0:21 mark on a put-back layup to close out the first half. Both teams had first-half percentages over 45-percent.
For the game, Tulsa shot 53-pecent from the field and 56-percent from three-point range as the sophomore duo of Andrews and Hurtt combined to make 9-of-15 treys for the game. Tulsa held OBU to a shooting percentage of 43-percent, and just 28-percent from the three-point line.
OBU's Brent Jones also led five players in double-figure scoring, as he tallied 16 points to go along with a game-high eight assists.
Tulsa will host its second exhibition game on Monday against Dallas Baptist at the Donald W. Reynolds Center at 7:05 pm. Tickets are still available.
