Tulsa Women's Tennis Blasts Sam Houston State 7-0

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's women's tennis team defeated Sam Houston State Bearkats 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The win was Tulsa's four without losing a point.
The Golden Hurricane started the match by sweeping the doubles competition. TU's pairs of Thalia Diaz-Barriga/Marta Marcinkowska and Alexandra Kichoutkin/Jie Zeng both won 8-2. Diaz-Barriga/Marcinkowska defeated Roxana Martinez/Stasa Vujosevic, while Kichoutkin/Zeng beat Eleonora Kuruc/Patricia Manzur. In the No. 1 doubles match Tulsa won in tiebreak, 8-7 (10-6), over Irina Sotnikova/Peta Taylor.
Tulsa also swept the singles portion of the dual. Diaz-Barriga won without losing a game, defeating former teammate Kuruc, 6-0, 6-0. Also winning handily were Marcinkowska and Agostina Santoro. Marcinkowska beat Manzur, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 position, while Santoro clinched the match for TU with a 6-1, 6-0, win over Vujosevic. Tulsa's other three matches went to third-set tiebreakers. Kichoutkin, 9-0, continued her unbeaten streak beating Sotnikova, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). At the No. 3 position Rebecca Row defeated Taylor, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5). Lastly, Jenna Webster dispatched Martinez, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3), to finish off the match.
The Golden Hurricane will next be in action on Sunday, February 17 at 11 a.m. against central region rival Kansas State.
