Tulsa Women's Tennis Cruises Past Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's women's tennis team defeated the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 6-1, Friday afternoon at Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the TU campus. The win moves Tulsa to 10-1 on the season, it was also the fifth consecutive win for the Golden Hurricane.
TU took the early lead by sweeping the doubles competition. The No. 3 match was the first to finish with the pair of Alexandra Kichoutkin/Jie Jeng defeating Angela Dabgond/Marina Ruiz De Gauna, 8-2. The duo is now 10-1 in doubles play. TU's No. 2 team of Thalia Diaz-Barriga/Marta Marcinkowska, 6-1, finished next, beating Mia Gordon/Kim Van Der Horst, 8-3. The No. 1 doubles match went to tiebreaker with Tulsa coming out victorious. The pair of Rebecca Row/Carla Zabaleta defeated Julie Mazinova/Myrthe Molenveld, 8-7 (7-4).
The Golden Hurricane won the first five singles matches before tasting defeat. The match was clinched by sophomore Row, 7-3, at the No. 4 position, beating Dabgond, 6-3, 6-4. TU's first singles victory was from sophomore Marcinkowska, who beat Bridget Marcovich, 6-1, 6-0. Marcinkowska remains undefeated, moving to 5-0. The Golden Hurricane went up 3-0 after junior Diaz-Barriga defeated Van Der Horst, 6-1, 6-2, at position No. 2. Tulsa's fourth victory came from junior Zabaleta, who dispatched Molenveld in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-2). The Golden Hurricane's fifth and final singles win was by lone senior Santoro, who beat Ruiz De Gauna, 6-2, 6-4. In the final match to finish, TU freshman Kichoutkin fell from the ranks of unbeaten, falling to Mazinova in a grueling third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (13-11). Kichoutkin, who has won two Conference USA Player of Week awards, is now 10-1 on the season.
