Tulsa, Okla. - Junior Chanel Johnson had a team-leading 21 points and 14 rebounds for Tulsa, but the Golden Hurricane dropped a 69-59 decision to Rice on Saturday afternoon at the Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas. The Golden Hurricane fell to 9-14 on the season and 5-5 in Conference USA, while the Owls moved to 9-15 overall and 2-8 in the league.

Johnson got the ball rolling for the Golden Hurricane as she scored nine of TU's first 11 points in the contest, and went into the break with 17. TU and Rice kept it close, tying the game five times in the first 20 minutes, but the Owls recorded a 10-4 run to own an eight-point advantage with 3:58 remaining. TU battled back to tie the game 29-29 with 1:33 on the clock, but Morgan Mayse hit a three-pointer to give Rice the advantage heading into the break.

In the second half, the game was tied four more times, but the Owls took a 60-59 lead with 3:58 remaining, and scored nine more unanswered points to finish with the 10-point advantage. TU connected on an impressive 9-of-11 free throws, but Rice made it to the line 10 more times and hit 18-of-21 from the free throw line.

Larrissa Williams finished with 13 points and eight boards, while ReShawndra Jackson had seven points and a team-leading three steals.

Kadie Riverin, Mayse and Maudess Fulton all registered double-digits for the Owls with 20, 18 and 10, respectively. Emery Carter pulled down 10 rebounds, while Tara Watts finished with eight assists and five steals.

The Golden Hurricane will return to action on Thursday, February 14th against UAB. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
