Tulsa Women's Tennis Blasts the Blue Raiders 7-0

Wichita, Kan. - The University of Tulsa's women's tennis team easily defeated the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita, Kan. The victory was Tulsa's 11th on the season and its first win at a neutral site. This was TU's fifth shutout this season.
The Golden Hurricane swept both the singles and doubles competitions. Freshman Alexandra Kichoutkin ended her two match losing streak beating Ann Siljestrom, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Kichoutkin is now 11-2 on the season, the same record as the team. At the No. 2 position, junior Thalia Diaz-Barriga defeated Stephanie Parkison, 7-5, 6-1. Sophomore Marta Marcinkowska moved to 6-1 on the season dispatching Marlene Chemin, 6-4, 6-1. Fellow sophomore Jie Zeng, 7-1, beat Andrea Herrera, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 position. In the two third-set tiebreaker matches, senior Agostina Santoro defeated Claudia Szabo, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-1) and junior Carla Zabaleta beat Elvira Yusupova 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-4).
In the doubles portion, the pair of Row/Zabaleta defeated Chemin/Yusupova, 8-3 at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 position the duo of Diaz-Barriga/Marcinkowska downed Siljestrom/Szabo, 8-5. In the last doubles match, Kichoutkin/Zeng beat Shannon Hartmann/Parkison, 8-7 (7-4).
The Golden Hurricane will be in action again tomorrow at noon, when it faces No. 47-ranked Wichita State in its first road match of the season.
