Sophomore Rebecca Row clinches the match for the Golden Hurricane over in-state rival Oklahoma

Norman, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's women's tennis team defeats the Oklahoma Sooners 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The win moves the No. 58-ranked Golden Hurricane to 5-2 against central region opponents. This was TU's six victory without losing a point.

The Golden Hurricane swept the singles competition. Freshman Alexandra Kichoutkin had her biggest win of her career, defeating 65th-ranked Ana-Maria Constantinescu, 6-4, 6-4. Kichoutkin's victory at the No. 1 position moved her record to 13-2. Clinching the match for Tulsa was sophomore Rebecca Row, 9-4, beating Christi Baxley, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Also winning in three sets were Thalia Diaz-Barriga at the No. 2 position, Carla Zabaleta at the No. 3 position and Agostina Santoro at the No. 6 position. Diaz-Barriga, 9-5, defeated Chelsea Orr, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Zabaleta, 6-5, dispatched Maria Kalashnikova, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, while Santoro, 9-2, beat Tara Eckel in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). In the first singles match to finish, sophomore Marta Marcinkowska, 8-1, downed Elena Antakova, 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 5 position.

TU won two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point. At the No. 2 doubles position, the team of Diaz-Barriga / Marcinkowska, 8-3, defeated the OU pair of Baxley / Eckel, 8-5. The 11-3 duo of Kichoutkin / Jie Zeng beat Antakova / Rachel Cox, 8-6. In Tulsa's lone defeat, Row / Zabaleta fell to Constantinescu / Orr, 8-4 at the No. 1 position.

The Golden Hurricane will next play next weekend, March 15-16, in Dallas, Texas against No. 50-ranked Louisville on Saturday at 2 p.m. and SMU on Sunday at 1 p.m. The team will not return home until Saturday, March 29 against Southern Alabama at 10 a.m.
