Tulsa Volleyball Begins 2008 Season at IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team begins the 2008 season when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend to face Jacksonville State, Evansville and IUPUI in the round-robin IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational. Play begins on Saturday, Aug. 30 and concludes on Sunday, Aug. 31.
The Golden Hurricane opens the tournament against Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. (central time). Jacksonville State shared a piece of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title after finishing with an 18-10 record overall and a 15-5 mark in conference action last season. The match marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Tulsa starts Sunday's play against Evansville at 9 a.m. The match against the Purple Aces will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams, with Evansville owning a 3-1 advantage in the series. The last time the two schools met was in 1995 with Evansville defeating TU 3-1. The Hurricane closes tournament play against host team IUPUI at 6 p.m. in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Tulsa is coming off of a 27-9 record and the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Conference USA Tournament title last season.
