Tulsa, Okla. - The 13th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team defeated the Texas-Arlington Mavericks, 6-1, on Saturday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa improves their record to 4-1 on the season, while Texas-Arlington drops to 1-2 on the year.
Tulsa swept the Mavs in doubles winning all three matches, led by fourth-ranked Arnau Brugues and Philip Stephens who beat Brieuc Hamon and Adam Srkala, 8-5, in the No. 1 position. Alberto Sottocorno teamed up Ashley Watling to knock off Mindaugas Celedinas and Dmitry Minkin, 8-5, in the No. 2 slot, and Patrick Collins and Rusty Turpin cruised past Gonzalo Bienzobas and David Subirats, 8-2, in No. 3 doubles.
The Hurricane dominated the Mavericks in singles winning five out of six matches led by 10th-ranked Arnau Brugues who made quick work of Brieuc Hamon, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 1 position. Philip Stephens defeated Mindaugas Celedinas, 6-3, 6-3, in No. 2 singles, while Alberto Sottocorno dropped Dmitry Minkin, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 3 slot.
Tulsa also picked up singles victories from Marko Ballok in the No. 4 position and Ross Cunningham in the No. 5 spot.
The Hurricane takes the court again tomorrow for a double-header against Saint Louis and Oral Roberts. Tulsa faces Saint Louis at 10:00 a.m., followed by a 4:00 p.m. start against cross-town rival Oral Roberts at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
