TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa freshman outside hitter Tyler Henderson was named an honorable mention member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America teams, the AVCA announced Wednesday.

Henderson, the 2009 AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year and graduate of Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City, becomes the second student-athlete and first freshman at Tulsa to earn All-America honors. Julia Silva earned the recognition three times during her career from 2005-07.

"This is a tremendous award for a freshman," Tulsa Head Coach Ed Allen said. "It is great for her to come in and have that kind of impact in our league and receive recognition for it. We expect her to improve and become a first, second or third team honoree over the course of the next few years."

Henderson was also named the 2009 C-USA Freshman of the Year, and this season she became just the second player in Tulsa history to record more than 500 kills in a single season, setting the school freshman record for kills with 554. She ranks 10th in the NCAA in kills per set with 4.62, and 21st in points per set with 4.89. She led C-USA in total kills, kills per set, total points with 587.0, and ranked second in points per set. She was the only C-USA player to earn the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week award four times this season.

Overall, Henderson totaled 554 kills (4.62 k/s), hit a .286 attack percentage, and tallied 66 digs, 53 total blocks and 587.0 points. Against AVCA regionally ranked opponents from all regions, she totaled 223 kills (5.44 k/s), 28 digs, 20 blocks, and totaled 253 points (5.73 per set).
