Denton, Texas - The 32nd-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team defeated North Texas, 5-2, on Friday evening at the Waranch Tennis Center in Denton, Texas. The Hurricane has now won eight consecutive matches, and improves to a 12-2 record on the season.
Tulsa grabbed the early doubles point by taking all three matches. Thalia Diaz-Barriga and Marta Marcinkowska defeated Irina Paraschiv and Madura Ranganathan, 8-7, in the No. 1 position. Anastasia Erofeeva and Jie Zeng breezed past Catalina Cruz and Narine Kazarova, 8-2, in the No. 2 slot, and Alexandra Kichoutkin and Rebecca Row knocked off Rachel Wilhelm and Amy Joubert by an identical 8-2 score in No. 3 doubles.
Tulsa used strong performances from the top of its singles lineup with Alexandra Kichoutkin defeating Irina Paraschiv, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 1 position, Jie Zeng taking down Madura Ranganathan, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 2 spot, and Thalia Diaz-Barriga topping Paula Dinuta, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 3 position.
The Golden Hurricane also picked up a singles win from Anastasia Erofeeva in the No. 5 slot, where she defeated Amy Joubert, 6-3, 7-6, to complete the 5-2 win over the Mean Green.
Tulsa returns to the court tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. to face 48th-ranked Florida International at the Waranch Tennis Center in Denton, Texas.
