Austin, Texas - The 50th-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team upset 27th-ranked Texas, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas. Sophomore Alexandra Kichoutkin clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-3, decision over Caroline Larsson in No. 1 singles.

The Hurricane improves to a 17-4 record, while the Longhorns drop to 8-5 on the season.

The match started an hour earlier than scheduled with singles play due to the threat of inclement weather. Doubles were played afterwards although Tulsa already clinched the win.

In singles play, the Golden Hurricane fell behind 1-0 after Stephanie Davison defeated freshman Ewa Szatkowska, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 6 singles, but bounced back to tie the match at 1-1 when freshman Anastasia Erofeeva defeated Amanda Craddock, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 4 position. Tulsa grabbed the 2-1 lead after junior Rebecca Row knocked off Sarah Lancaster, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 5 slot, but Krista Damico responded to beat junior Jie Zeng, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 2 singles to tie the match at 2-2.

Thalia Diaz-Barriga regained the lead for Tulsa with a 6-4, 6-3, win over Maggie Mello in the No. 3 position, and Alexandra Kichoutkin clinched the victory with her win over Caroline Larsson in the No. 1 position, pushing the score to 4-2.

Tulsa won two out of three matches in doubles play to finalize the 5-2 victory. Anastasia Erofeeva and Jie Zeng defeated Stephanie Davison and Caroline Larsson, 9-8 (5), in the No. 2 spot, and Rebecca Row and Alexandra Kichoutkin ousted Amanda Craddock and Sarah Lancaster, 8-6, in the No. 3 position.

The Hurricane is back in action against Conference USA rival Rice on Saturday, March 28, in Houston, Texas.
