Manhattan, Kan. - The 32nd-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team swept past Kansas State, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Cottonwood Racquet Club in Manhattan, Kan. Tulsa improves its record to 15-3, while the Wildcats drop to 3-4 on the season.
Due to weather conditions and time constraints, the match was played using NCAA Tournament rules with the first team to four points being named the winner. Doubles were not played.
Tulsa picked up singles wins in the No. 1, 3, 5 and 6 positions to earn the 4-0 win, marking the eighth sweep of the season for the Golden Hurricane.
Freshman Anastasia Erofeeva easily defeated Petra Chuda 6-0, 6-1, in No. 5 singles to give Tulsa the early 1-0 lead. Senior Thalia Diaz-Barriga followed with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Mariya Slupska in the No. 3 position, pushing the Hurricane's advantage to 2-0.
Sophomore Alexandra Kichoutkin defeated Antea Huljev, 6-1, 7-5, in the No. 1 position, and freshman Ewa Szatkowska topped Katerina Kudlackova (KSU), 6-1, 6-2, in No. 6 singles to complete the 4-0 sweep of the Wildcats.
No. 32 Tulsa is back in action against conference opponent Tulane at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, in New Orleans, La.
