Tulsa, Okla. - The 42nd-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team defeated the 66th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane improves its record 20-4 on the year, marking its third consecutive 20-win season.

Tulsa grabbed the early 1-0 lead with a pair of wins in No. 1 and 3 doubles positions. Thalia Diaz-Barriga and Marta Marcinkowska defeated Jana Albers and Madeleine Geibert, 8-3, in the top flight, and Alexandra Kichoutkin and Rebecca Row topped Jennifer Holmberg and Mary Weatherholt, 8-4, in the No. 3 spot.

The Huskers turned around in singles and quickly tied the score at 1-1 with Mary Weatherholt defeating junior Jie Zeng, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 2 position. The Hurricane responded with junior Rebecca Row's win over Ashley Finnegan in the No. 5 position to retake the 2-1 lead, but Nebraska tied the score once again at 2-2 with Jana Albers beating freshman Anastasia Erofeeva, 6-3, 7-5, in the No. 4 slot.

However, that was as close as Nebraska would get as Tulsa won the remaining three singles matches to seal the 5-2 victory.

Senior Thalia Diaz-Barriga regained the 3-2 lead for Tulsa with an impressive 6-7, 6-1, 6-0, win against Wiveca Swarting in the No. 3 position. Sophomore Alexandra Kichoutkin clinched the victory with her 6-4, 6-3, win over Madeleine Geibert in the top flight, and freshman Ewa Szatkowska topped Jennifer Holmberg, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, in the No. 6 position to complete the 5-2 final score.

The Hurricane concludes its regular season schedule against 71st-ranked Wichita State on Thursday, April 9, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. It marks the final home match for senior Thalia Diaz-Barriga, who will finish her career in the top-five on both the school's all-time career singles and doubles wins lists.
