Volleyball Plays at ORU Classic This Weekend

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team is back in the city of Tulsa this weekend and playing across town at the ORU Classic Thursday through Saturday at the ORU Aerobic Center. The tournament begins with a matchup of intra-city rivals Tulsa and Oral Roberts Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Golden Hurricane will also play Friday against Northwestern State at 4 p.m. and Saturday against UALR at 3:30 p.m. Live stats of all TU matches will be available at www.TulsaHurricane.com.
Tulsa (3-0), is hitting .360 as a team (130 kills-28 errors-283 attempts), with 130 kills (13.00 k/set), 118 assists (11.80 a/s), 19 service aces, 135 digs and 34.0 total blocks (3.40 per set).
Oral Roberts (3-0) enters the weekend hitting .224 (143-56-389) with 143 kills (14.30 k/s), 136 assists (13.60 a/s), 19 service aces, 201 digs and 17.0 total blocks (1.70 b/s). Northwestern State (0-1), in its only match thus far, hit .059 (34-27-119), recorded 34 kills, 29 assists, five aces, 40 digs and 6.0 blocks (2.0 b/s). UALR (2-1) hits .208 as a team (128-52-366) and has tallied 128 kills (11.64/s), 119 assists (10.82 a/s), 16 aces, 153 digs (13.91 d/s) and 22.0 total blocks (2.0 b/s).
Tulsa is led by the on the outside by senior Jennifer Eichler, who has 32 kills (3.20 kills per set), a .284 attack percentage, 15 total blocks and 43.5 points for the Hurricane last season. Freshman Tyler Henderson has 30 kills (3.00 k/s), hits .353, has eight blocks and has scored 33.5 points.
At middle blocker, senior Julia Kenealy is hitting .625 with 15 kills, and leads the team with 19 total blocks, while junior Hannah Stout hits .571 with 26 kills and 14 blocks. Freshman libero Jessica Adams leads the Hurricane with 48 digs (4.80 d/s) and is tied for the team lead with four service aces. Setters Rachel Vukson and Jordan Clampitt have 49 and 60 assists, respectively, and Clampitt adds 17 digs.
Tulsa and Oral Roberts have played 70 times; ORU leads 57-13. Last season, the two teams split the series, with the Golden Eagles winning, 3-2 at home, and TU winning, 3-1 at home. In the last three seasons, Tulsa leads, 3-2. Tulsa and Northwestern State have played four times; TU leads, 4-0. The two schools last played in 2007, with the Golden Hurricane winning, 3-0. TU and NSU also played in 1999 (3-0 TU), 2002 (3-1 TU) and 2004 (3-0 TU). Tulsa and UALR have played three times; UALR leads, 3-0. The two teams last met in 1996, with the Trojans winning, 3-0. UALR also won 3-2 in 1986 and 3-0 in 1994.
TU's first home match will be Tuesday, Sept. 8 against Arkansas. It plays host to the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational on Sept. 11-12.
