The University of Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a narrow, 58-55, decision to Tulane on Friday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane fell to 6-8 on the season and 0-3 in Conference USA, while the Green Wave moved to 13-3 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Larrissa Williams led Tulsa with 16 points, including a career-high 12 field goals made, pulled down six boards, and had four blocks and two steals in the contest. Taleya Mayberry also scored in double figures with 10 points, while Tatum Beer added eight. Teka Brooks recorded a team-leading seven boards and three assists.
The first half was a very balanced 20 minutes, as neither team led by more than two baskets, the score was tied seven times and there were three lead changes. The Golden Hurricane took a 28-23 advantage into the break.
In the second half, Tulsa was out-scored 16-2 in the first 9:45 that ticked off the clock, and the Green Wave tallied a game-high 10-point advantage with 2:46 left to play. The Golden Hurricane tied the contest, 54-all, with 1:30 on the clock, but Roshaunda Barnes hit four free throws for the win, 58-55.
Tulsa shot just 29.6-percent from the field and 22.2-percent from behind the arc, but 21 of their points came off free throws as the Golden Hurricane shot 77.8-percent tonight from the charity stripe. Tulsa edged the Tulane in rebounds, 43-42, while both teams combined for 56 turnovers in the contest (29-Tulsa, 27 Tulane).
Chassity Brown led the Green Wave with 15 points, Barnes added 11 and Danielle Nunn posted 10 points. Nunn registered nine rebounds, while Barnes had five assists.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 16, as the Golden Hurricane hosts UTEP beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.
