Tulsa, Oklahoma -
The University of Tulsa's 12th-ranked men's soccer team tied Marshall, 1-1, on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 7-3-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in Conference USA, while the Thundering Herd went to 7-4-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.
"We just started with too slow of a tempo and didn't go forward with enough urgency tonight," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "In the second half, we played better. We got forward quicker, created more chances and earned our goal, but we aren't finishing enough chances. If we get to a point where we can put away our chances, we can turn things around."
Ashley McInnes scored his sixth goal of the season off a long ball from Wyatt Stephens. He went one-on-one with the keeper and drilled in the ball from 10 yards out in the 75th minute. Diego Ayala evened the score two minutes later as he capitalized on a free kick taken by Tom Jackson.
McInnes led TU as he attempted nine shots in the contest, five of which were on goal, while Austin Neil and Chris Taylor added three attempts apiece. Michael Murray logged all 110 minutes in goal and picked up six saves.
Tulsa outshot Marshall, 20-14, including a 10-8 lead in shots on goal.
The Golden Hurricane will return to action against SMU on Wednesday, Oct. 20th. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Dallas.
