Tulsa Women's Tennis Drops Wichita State, 6-1

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - The 33rd-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team battled through blazing 90-degree temperatures to defeat 68th-ranked Wichita State, 6-1, on Friday afternoon in Indian Wells, Calif. The Hurricane has now won seven straight matches and improves to 13-4 on the season.
Tulsa won the doubles point with a pair of victories in the No. 1 and 3 positions.
35th-ranked JoAnne Karaitiana and Alexandra Kichoutkin crushed 22nd-ranked Delia Damaschin and Stephanie Dalmacio, 8-0, in the No. 1 position, and Rebecca Row and Michelle Farley topped Lily Wakim and Florentina Hanisch, 8-3, in the third flight.
In singles, 95th-ranked Alexandra Kichoutkin upset 34th-ranked Lutfiana Budiharto in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 1 position to win her seventh consecutive match, while Rebecca Row won her ninth-straight match with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) decision over Florentina Hanisch in the No. 5 slot.
Anastasia Erofeeva defeated Lenore Lazaroiu, 7-6, 6-1, in the third position, Ewa Szatkowska beat Delia Damaschin, 7-5, 6-4, in the No. 4 flight and Michelle Farley swept Lily Wakim, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 position.
"I thought we played well in very tough conditions," Head Coach Dean Orford said. "It was very hot which is new for us. We have not had a chance to compete in weather like this yet. Now we have to recover to play a very good Iowa team tomorrow."
The Hurricane returns to the court tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. (CT) to face No. 25 Iowa in Indian Wells, Calif.
