LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It was another battle between 37th-ranked Tulsa and 41st-ranked Marshall as the Hurricane narrowly defeated the Thundering Herd, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky.
Tulsa (16-5) picked up wins in No. 1 and 2 doubles to grab the crucial doubles point.
35th-ranked JoAnne Karaitiana and Alexandra Kichoutkin defeated 29th-ranked Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna, 8-2, in the No. 1 position, and Anastasia Erofeeva and Ewa Szatkowska topped Kara Kucin and Isabell Raich, 8-5, in the second flight.
Anastasia Erofeeva earned a tough 7-5, 6-4 victory over Dominika Zaprazna in No. 2 singles to give her a team-best 22 wins on the season. JoAnne Karaitiana posted a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win against Isabell Raich to win her fourth-straight match, and Michelle Farley defeated Kristina Koprcina, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 6 singles to round out the scoring for Tulsa in the 4-3 win.
"It was a good weekend for us to come out with two wins," Head Coach Dean Orford said. "The last four times we have played Marshall the score has been 4-3, so we were expecting a tough match. I was proud of the way competed."
