Oak Ridge, Tenn. - The University of Tulsa women's rowing team will race this Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18, at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The Golden Hurricane will race the Novice 4+, Varsity 4+, Varsity 8+, 2nd Varsity 8+ and Lightweight 8+ against teams from the Big Ten, Big 12, Southeastern Conference and Conference USA, as well as some very talented club teams in the likes of Grand Valley State and Purdue.
Tulsa's ninth-ranked Lightweight 8+ boat will be racing for an automatic bid to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Lightweight National Championship in June. A gold medal finish would guarantee them a spot in the championship.
"I am very proud of the way the women have trained over the last month," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We will race quite a few of our Conference USA rivals, such as Alabama, Oklahoma, SMU and Kansas State, and if we stay loose and perform at the level we are capable of, we'll leave Oak Ridge in a good spot for the C-USA Championship in May, as well as for the rest of the season."
Tulsa brought home a gold medal in the Novice 4+, a silver medal in the Varsity 4+ and a bronze medal in the Lightweight 8+ last year at the SIRA Championship.
