Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa head women's rowing coach Kevin Harris announced today the addition of Rodney Mott, Taurii Coyne and Katie Caves to the coaching staff.
"Tulsa is incredibly lucky to have Rodney, Taurii and Katie on the staff," Harris said. "All of them wanted to come to Tulsa to help create a championship team. They are following in the footsteps of three great assistant coaches, but I know they will be a tremendous asset to us as we raise competitive bar at TU."
Mott comes to TU from Vassar College, where he has served as the head men's and women's coach since 2006. At Vassar, Mott coached the Varsity 8+ to a No. 13 national ranking in 2006 and 2007, qualified the Men's 4+, Women's Varsity 8+ and Women's Novice 8+ for the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship, and coached 2007 Pocock All-American Katie Mixter.
Prior to Vassar, Mott was the Head Crew Coach for Willamette University (1996-2006), Puget Sound (1989-1996) and North Idaho College (1988-1989), and was an assistant coach at Washington State (1988).
"Rodney has a vast amount of college coaching experience that will be invaluable," Harris said. "He is well respected and has coached on the east and west coasts, which will help in recruiting."
Coyne was a volunteer coach for the University of Miami women's rowing team in 2006-07 and 2009. She also served as the head coach for the Chicago River Rowing Club in 2007, and was a coach and private instructor for the Tampa Rowing Club (2001-05). Coyne was a four-year letterwinner at Miami, where she was a competitive sculls/sweep rower in all boat classes.
"Taurii is stepping into the second assistant coaching position," Harris said. "She has already helped create structure and organization for the Tulsa rowers, and is a talented young coach."
Caves comes to Tulsa as a Graduate Assistant. She was a three-year letterwinner at UC-Berkeley, where she was a member of the Varsity 4+ that finished second at the Pac-10 and NCAA Championships this past season. Her Varsity 4+ also raced to a first-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships and fourth-place mark at the NCAA Championships during her junior season.
"Katie is excited about the opportunities both from an education and coaching standpoint for the upcoming season," Harris said. "She also brings championship experience that will be a great asset as we continue to get better as a team."
