Volleyball Takes Two at Doublewood Inn Classic

Sophomore Jessica Adams recorded 38 digs in two matches Friday to lead the Golden Hurricane to wins over South Dakota and North Dakota State.

FARGO, N.D. - Tyler Henderson totaled 49 kills, Jordan Clampitt totaled 97 assists and Jessica Adams totaled 38 digs to lead The University of Tulsa volleyball team to two wins, 3-0 over South Dakota, and 3-1 over North Dakota State, Friday at the Doublewood Inn Classic at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

The Golden Hurricane (8-2) beat South Dakota, 25-19, 25-10, 25-22, and North Dakota State, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-16. Tulsa has won seven straight matches, and had won 20 consecutive sets before dropping the third against NDSU Friday evening.

TU concludes the tournament Saturday at 5 p.m. against North Dakota.

"I was really pleased with the consistency of our outside hitters performed in both matches," Tulsa head coach Ed Allen said. "I was really pleased with the balanced performance in the evening match. Our middle blockers stepped up and we provided some help to our outside hitters. Jordan (Clampitt) played really well, and I was pleased with her continued development in her ability to run our offense. We served the ball reasonably well, serving consistently in terms of hitting our locations. I was really excited about how we played today, and we need to go out and get a win tomorrow and finish strong heading into conference play."

In the match against South Dakota, Henderson slammed 23 kills, hit .439 and had six digs and Clampitt had 42 assists. Adams had 14 digs and Diana Silva had 15 digs, plus eight kills and hit .412.

The Golden Hurricane hit .275 as a team (43-13-109) with 43 kills, 43 assists, two service aces, 55 digs and 4.0 blocks. The Coyotes hit .170 (35-16-112) with 35 kills, 34 assists, one ace, 47 digs and 3.0 blocks.

Tulsa took a 5-2 lead early in set one, but South Dakota stayed with the Hurricane through a 13-13 tie. However, TU scored twice on a Clampitt ace and a kill by Kelsey Hancock, to take a 15-13 lead. Tulsa extended its lead to 19-15, and went on to win the set, 25-19.

The Golden Hurricane thoroughly dominated the second set, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, which it took to 10-5. TU then went on a 15-5 run to finish the set, scoring in a streak of eight and bursts of three and two points through the run, winning the set, 25-10.

Tulsa fell behind to open the third set, 6-2, but fought back to tie the score at seven apiece. The Hurricane took an 807 lead, but found itself behind again, 11-10, and trailed through most of the rest of the set, though never fell back more than three points from the Coyotes. TU tied the score again at, 21-21, took a 22-21 lead, and from a 22-22 tie, scored the final three points on Henderson kills to win, 25-22.

Tulsa 3, North Dakota State, 1

Tulsa beat the host North Dakota State, 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-16), Friday evening in the Doublewood Inn Classic at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Tyler Henderson blasted 26 kills with eight digs, Jessica Adams tallied 24 digs and Jordan Clampitt recorded a double-double with 55 assists and 12 digs. Hannah Stout hit .500 with 10 kills, and Diana Silva had 14 kills and nine digs.

The Golden Hurricane hit .343 as a team (65-16-143) with 65 kills, 57 assists, three service aces, 67 digs and 2.0 blocks. The Bison hit .235 (48-16-136) with 48 kills, 47 assists, seven aces, 55 digs and 5.0 blocks.
