"I think we'll be pushed as hard as we're going to be pushed by any competition throughout the course of the year," head coach Ed Allen said. "I think Washington State creates some interesting challenges for us. They have a lot of size at the net, so it will be great for our attackers to get a chance to work against some of that size. We expect all three teams to ball control very well, so I think it will test our defense for sure."
Last weekend, sophomore Tyler Henderson tallied 71 kills (6.45 k/s) and hit .323, with six blocks, totaling 75.5 points (6.86 pts/set). For her efforts, Henderson was named Conference USA co-Player of the Week. Sophomore Diana Silva (28 kills), senior Hannah Stout (27 kills) and junior Kelsey Hancock (26 kills) also led the TU offense. Sophomore libero Jessica Adams led the Hurricane with 59 digs (5.36 per set), and sophomore setter Jordan Clampitt recorded 150 assists for a league-leading average of 13.64 per set.
Washington State won the only two previous meetings against Tulsa, the most recent of which came in 2006, Allen's first at TU. This weekend's matches against San Francisco and UC Santa Barbara will mark the first meeting between the Golden Hurricane and either school.
