Golden Hurricane Cruises Past UAPB, ORU In Season Opener

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 32-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team opened its spring 2011 campaign with two smooth 7-0 victories over University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Oral Roberts University Friday at Case Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane was led by junior Bonny Davidson and sophomore Michelle Farley, who both posted perfect 4-0 marks. Davidson defeated Lauren Valecillos of UAPB 6-0, 6-0, and she also soared past Kristin Gray of Oral Roberts 6-2, 6-1. Farley defeated Marial Cabane of UABP 6-0, 6-1 and took down Lina Semenova of ORU 6-0, 6-4.
Davidson and Farley teamed up to win both doubles matches by identical 8-0 marks. They defeated Valecillos and Jarissa Greenard of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Gray and Rachel Scroggs of Oral Roberts.
Alexandra Kichoutkin got her senior campaign started on a high note with three wins. Her lone singles match of the day saw her take down Iryna Khatsko of ORU 6-1, 6-0. She and fellow senior Jo-Anne Karaitiana dispatched of ORU's tandem of Semenova and Khatsko 8-1. They also defeated Cabane and Fabiola Cardoso of UAPB 8-1.
Junior Ewa Szatkowska played at No. 1 singles against the Lions, and she won her match over Cardoso 6-1, 6-2. She and junior Caroline Beaulieu teamed up to defeated Ekaterina Kondrashova and Brittney Smith of Oral Roberts 8-1.
Beaulieu competed at No. 4 singles against the Golden Eagles and defeated Kondrashova 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Maria Sant'Anna made her collegiate debut and won both her singles matches. She defeated Greenard of UAPB 6-0, 6-1, and blew past Scroggs of ORU 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore Meredith Burns defeated Stephanie Forte of UAPB 6-0, 6-1, and freshman Anamaria Candanoza took down Smith of ORU 6-0, 6-1.
Next up for the Golden Hurricane will be a matchup with Mississippi State University at 6 p.m. Jan. 21.
