Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik
Opening Statement...
"That's a big win for us. I think we challenged ourselves with our schedule. We didn't play well in the first half at Arizona State. We got back late. We haven't had much rhythm with our team as far as wins and a chance to really build confidence or build our statistics up or anything like that. It's just a really nice win for us. For us to turn around in two days and for all the guys who played to contribute in their own way the way they did made for a great team win, which we hope will propel us from this point."
On offensive performance tonight...
"First of all, I give the kids credit because they went with the game plan. We only shot 11 threes. We played against a match-up zone the other day that would collapse against us. It was hard because they had a bigger kid in there at Arizona State. Tonight they showed a lot of discipline and took good shots. We were able to get it inside. Justin [Hurtt] really had a great second half. It's amazing how well he shoots it off of the dribble and gets his own shot, which is pretty impressive. Kodi [Maduka] was terrific and Joe [Richard] was terrific, and all of those shots are just high percentage shots."
Tulsa forward Steven Idlet:
On holding on to lead after first half...
"We got an OK lead, maybe 10 points. Then pushed it back up in the start of the second half. That's big for our confidence as a defensive team. I don't think they ever thought they could get back in the game."
On attacking in the post...
"That's something you want to do every game. They guarded us one-on-one in the post and any time you're one-on-one you have to be able to score. We had really good scoring tonight across the board."
On Joe Richard's performance...
"Oh man, Joe was unbelievable tonight. Taking that charge at the end, that was unbelievable - just a huge play. You saw it at both ends. He made all the hustle plays and just played really well tonight."
Tulsa guard Scottie Haralson:
On tonight's defensive front...
"We wanted to set the defensive tone and we did. We wanted to get stops, and stops led to easy baskets. We showed that and it paid off."
On tonight's confidence boost for league play...
"The conference is wide open. It's anybody's championship to win. We're going to continue and build off this and take it one game at a time. That's all you can do."
Tulsa forward Kodi Maduka:
On his career high scoring performance and on the continuance of this play...
"I've been working a lot with my back to the basket; varying up my jump hooks using the right shoulder or left shoulder. Steven's been working with me a lot and I can do both. I've been a lot more consistent lately. If I can do that to help the team we can go far in the conference tournament."
