Two Home Matches Slated For Golden Hurricane

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women’s tennis team will play host to Mississippi State University and University of Arkansas-Little Rock this upcoming weekend. The match with the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 21 at Case Tennis Center. TU will also play host to the Trojans at 5 p.m. Jan. 22.

This will be the first meeting between TU and Mississippi State in the Dean Orford era. The Golden Hurricane defeated UALR last season 7-0, while only dropping one set in the entire match.

Tulsa coach Dean Orford is in his sixth season at the helm, and he recently tied the school record for most career wins. The two victories on Jan. 14 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Oral Roberts gave him 104 for his career. He tied with Paige McMurray (1998-05), who ended her career with a 104-65 mark. Orford also has a .748 win overall percentage, which is also a school record.

The Golden Hurricane kicked off the 2011 spring campaign with dominating efforts against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Oral Roberts. Junior Bonny Davidson and sophomore Michelle Farley each posted 4-0 marks in their matches. Davidson defeated Kristin Gray of ORU 6-2, 6-1, and took down Lauren Valecillos of UAPB 6-0, 6-0. Both matches were at No. 3 singles She also teamed up with Farley for two 8-0 victories at No. 2 doubles. Farley defeated Lina Semenova 6-0, 6-4, and took down Mariel Cabane 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
