MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Tulsa volleyball team recorded a season-high 10 blocks as it defeated Memphis in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-11), Sunday at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

After a pair of wins over the weekend, including a 3-0 win over UAB Friday night, the Golden Hurricane improved to 17-5 overall and 8-1 in C-USA play to move into sole possession of first place in the C-USA standings. Memphis fell to 15-7 overall and 4-5 in league play.

Junior Diana Silva led the Hurricane with 14 kills and hit .375, and sophomore Kellie Culbertson hit .526 with 10 kills and no errors in the match. Junior Tyler Henderson tallied 11 kills and hit .333, adding four blocks.

Freshman Carly Boatwright had a career-high seven blocks to lead the TU blocking effort. Jessica Adams led the Hurricane with 13 digs, while Culbertson added seven digs.

Jordan Clampitt tallied 19 assists and eight digs, and Bailey Clampitt recorded 15 assists.

"It was an all-around solid match," Tulsa Head Coach Steven McRoberts said. "Blocking was a huge part of the match. Memphis is the most aggressive serving team in the league and they put pressure on us early. I thought we did a really good job of minimizing errors when they got us out of system. Blocking played a large role in that. It allowed us to hit at them with some confidence because we knew our defense would be there."

Tulsa hit .348 as a team (42-10-92) with 42 kills, 39 assists, two service aces, 41 digs and 10.0 blocks. Memphis hit .106 (33-22-104) with 33 kills, 31 assists, two aces, 35 digs and 1.0 block.

TU's .348 hitting percentage was its highest since it hit .380 in a 3-0 win over North Dakota State on Sept. 2. The 10 blocks is a season high for the Hurricane, and the one block allowed is the fewest by a TU opponent since the first match of the season against Albany on Aug. 26.

Tulsa picked up five blocks in the first set, and held Memphis to a .057. Silva led TU with four kills in the set, and the Hurricane tallied a sideout percentage of .630.

Adams led the Hurricane with seven digs in the second set, while Jordan Clampitt had five digs and six assists. Henderson tallied five kills, and Culbertson added four kills in the frame. Each of the Clampitt sisters served Tulsa on four-point runs.

Bailey Clampitt served Tulsa on an eight-point run early in the third set, as it established an 11-4 lead. Culbertson served a three-point run and Jordan Clampitt served a four-point run later in the set to put the Hurricane ahead, 21-7. Silva tallied seven kills with no errors to lead TU.

The Golden Hurricane returns to action Thursday when it takes on Marshall at 7 p.m. The match is Tulsa's annual Dig for the Cure match, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness.
