FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Junior Ewa Szatkowska and sophomore Michelle Farley both picked up two wins, but it wasn't enough as the No. 37-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 21 Arkansas this afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane (5-2) was able to take the early lead by winning the doubles point, but the Razorbacks (6-1) claimed four singles matches to steal the win from TU.
Szatkowska teamed with fellow junior Anastasia Erofeeva to take care of Kate Lukomskaya and Stephanie Roy 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, and Farley and junior Bonny Davidson breezed past Kelsey Sundaram and Jade Frampton 8-3 at the third position.
Seniors Alexandra Kichoutkin and Jo-Anne Karaitiana fell 8-3 to Anouk Tigu and Claudine Paulson, but the doubles point had already been secured by Tulsa.
Freshman Sam Vickers lost her first collegiate match 6-3, 6-2 to Frampton at No. 5 singles as Arkansas tied the overall score at 1-1. Farley regained the TU lead as she blew out Valentina Starkova 6-0, 6-2 at the sixth position.
The Razorbacks would again tie the match following Paulson's 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win over Erofeeva at No. 2, and Arkansas took its first lead of the match after Emily Carbone defeated Karaitiana 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) at No. 3.
Arkansas won the fourth and decisive point with a win at No. 1 singles as Lukomskaya came back to defeat Kichoutkin in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). At the fourth position, Szatkowska was able to defeat Roy 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 2-3 retired.
This is the second-straight year Tulsa fell to Arkansas 4-3, and the Golden Hurricane won the doubles point in both matches.
TU will stay in Fayetteville for the evening and will face Texas Tech at 11 a.m. Feb. 12.
