Tulsa Rowers Host Tulsa Duels on Saturday

The regatta is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 10:30 a.m., and will feature eight races between TU, Oklahoma City and Central Oklahoma.

The University of Tulsa rowing team will host the Tulsa Duels on Saturday, April 23rd at the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest on the Verdigris River in Catoosa, Okla. The regatta is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 10:30 a.m., and will feature eight races between TU, Oklahoma City and Central Oklahoma.

The race day will feature three sculling events - the Varsity 2-, Varsity 2x and Lightweight 2x, in which each rower has two oars, while the remaining five races - the Novice 4+, Varsity 4+ `A' and `B', Novice/Open 8+, and the Varsity 8+, are sweeping races, which means each rower will have just one oar.

"We are happy to host OCU and UCO in our regatta this season," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "It is good to get the local schools together to race and it gives us all an opportunity to alter our training a little bit and try new things as we approach the last part of the season. It is also Senior Day for our rowers so it is a great chance to recognize this special class. We look forward to racing this weekend and rowing our best for our fans."

The Golden Hurricane is coming off a solid performance at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship last week where the team earned the women's title and medaled all five boats.

Directions to the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest from the TU Campus
1. Go North on Harvard.
2. Take 1-244 East, which turns into 1-44 East.
3. Exit 241 onto 66 East toward Catoosa/Claremore.
4. After approximately four miles, turn right into Rogers Point Park.
5. Follow the road straight toward the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest.
