Camden, N.J. -
The University of Tulsa Lightweight 4+ finished sixth at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship on Saturday morning in Camden, N.J. This regatta concluded the season for the TU rowers. The Golden Hurricane crew, which featured Abigail Gorman, Puja Sztorc, Heather Brooks, Molly Selig and Carla Horne, turned in a time of 8:10.04.
"I am really proud of our Lightweight women," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "They've done a great job all season. We competed well and it was a good step for the program. I am very proud of the way these women rowed and represented The University of Tulsa. The two seniors [Brooks and Horne] have had a tremendous amount of successful strokes, and it is hard to watch them leave."
"This was my fourth year racing at the IRA," Brooks said. "It is always challenging because you don't know what to expect. We knew we were ranked behind these teams, but we tried to not let that effect us. I think the last four years of coming here has really put the Tulsa rowing program on the map and I am happy to have been a part of it."
"We went into today's race with an open mind and gave it our all," Horne said. "It was our last race as seniors and we wanted to end it on a good note. We were relaxed and wanted to enjoy it. We wanted to find more speed today, and as a boat we accomplished that."
