TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Four players hit double-digit kills and three players hit double-digit digs, including two double-doubles for the Tulsa volleyball team, which fell to Kentucky, 3-2, at the FSU Invitational Saturday.
Junior outside hitter Diana Silva had 15 kills and 18 digs, and senior outside hitter Kelsey Hancock had 11 kills and 12 digs for TU. Freshman middle blocker Carly Boatwright put up 11 kills and hit .714 in the match. Adams tallied 18 digs, while Henderson had 17 kills. The Wildcats won the match, 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 20-25, 13-15).
TU fought back from a 14-6 deficit in the fifth set to within one point at 14-13. The late surge, however, proved to be too little for the Hurricane, which lost its first regular season match since Aug. 28, 2010.
"I was proud of our players," Tulsa Head Coach Steven McRoberts said. "They showed heart and fought back and were right there at the end."
Tulsa hit .267 in the match (57-17-150) with 57 kills, 53 assists, five service aces, 68 digs and 7.0 blocks. Kentucky hit .308 (76-23-172) with 76 kills, 76 assists, six aces, 73 dugs and 7.0 blocks.
The Golden Hurricane opens at home next weekend, Sept. 2-3, with the Park Inn Hurricane Invitational at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU will play UT Arlington at 12:30 p.m. and North Dakota State at 7 p.m. on Friday, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff and UC Davis on Saturday at noon and 6 p.m., respectively.
